Book Review: Death in Printers Alley

Book Review:                                     Death in Printers Alley

Summary:

This Science Fiction Novel revolves around a murder taking place in ‘Printers Alley’ – which is associated with musicians and nightclubs.  Bonz Bagley the owner of a club in the street is murder in the early hours of Sunday morning.  A former detective, Shane Hadley hears the shots fired and wheels his wheelchair into the direction of the fired shots.  On reaching the porch overlooking ‘Printers Alley’ he see’s someone running away from the crime scene, with a slight hitch in their gait.
The police arrive within minutes and detective Hardy Seltzer interviews detective Shane Hadley.  A connection is made and Hardy and Shane start with their detective work.  Hardy goes with his gut and arrests Jody and Shane still keep the investigation going on his end.  Not believing that the criminal will hand over the gun.

KiKi (Katya Karpov) is Shanes wife and she is suspicious about data she thought did not make sense.  Cy Bartalak and his wife Beth work alongside KiKi and she has her doubts about the results of the tests.  She looks access Beth’s computer and finds information that is damning to the project.

Social / Historical Context:

This dynamic story tells about the drive for success in the business world, the craziness of the academic world – the quest to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.  The morals and standards of people involved.

The policing and the politics that is ongoing throughout the story and the way Hardy and Shane work together.  How they reach their different goals.

Writing Style:

The writing style to my mind is evocation and commonplace.  It narrates the experimental drugs that are used on people and the outcome of the tests.  The story is really about finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and the people involved in the studies.  The focus is on the studies and detective work around finding the murder.  The characters are exciting and interesting.

The writer knows the academic world and is able to describe the environment, his investigative skills are really good.  I think the writer has the ability to draw you into the story and you keep wondering what’s going to happen next.

I enjoyed the read and to be honest I just could not put the book down, it was thrilling and interesting and I like the angle the writer took.

My Thoughts:

I liked the story; I like Katya Karpov – the neurologist, her retired detective husband Shane Hadley and the people she was associated with.  Beth and Cy Bartalak at the university.  Bartalak’s business dealing and the cunning way he draws people into his business venture.  The murder of one of the club owners in Printer’s Alley, Bonz Bagley.  Not forgetting the detective doing all the hard work Hardy Seltzer, not your normal run of the mill kind of guy.  Excellent story!  Must read!

Renewing of my mind.

2 Corinthians 10:5Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
and we tear down every proud idea that raises itself against the knowledge of God. We also capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ.
The renewing of my mind is taking up my cross each and every day, going forward and keeping watch over my thoughts, my mouth and placing a guard over my mouth especially.  To top it off I now realize that I need to place a guard over myself-talk.
You know that little voice that comes out when you feel upset about something and you start saying something.
Lord Jesus today I want to pray asking You to please help me take every thought captive to You so that I am able to obey YOU.
Lord just as I am forgiven me, if I have allowed any proud ideas into my life, help me deal with it in Jesus Name, Amen

"Out of Sorts."

2 Kings 3:18Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

18 This is an easy thing for the Lord to do. He will also help you defeat the Moabites.
Today I have been "out of sorts" and the day just dragged on and I wasn't feeling myself.  Then I realized something, I have been feeling this way for a couple of days actually.  I have been focusing my energy and attention on myself and not on the Lord my God.
Nothing in this world is "too difficult for the LORD to do."  We can see it clearly stated in 2 Kings 3 verses 18 that "this is an easy thing for the LORD to do.  He will also help you..."
Lord God, You know my point of view and my frustrations, my feelings and my problems, please Lord take my hand and help me.  In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.  Amen

Is it only me or have you also asked God to show you His glory in your own life?

My question is this “What is the Glory of God?”  Take a look at Exodus chapter 33 verses 18 to 19 (HCSB)  “Then Moses said: “Please, let me see Your glory.”  He said:  “I will cause all My goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim the name Yahweh before you.  I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Moses is one of the most impressive people to mind, he actually had the privilege to speak face to face with God.  Not referring to the Lord Jesus but from my point of view how awesome it that.  So would you agree with me that the Glory of God is the following:  “God’s goodness to pass before you,  God to proclaim the name of Yahweh before you.  God’s graciousness towards you, and God’s compassion towards you?”

I believe God is so merciful to me on many occasions, I mess up on a regular basis.  I constantly work at being the best I can but I flounder often.

I praise the Lord God Almighty for having such patience with me.

Prayer

El Shaddai – Almighty God as I come into Your presence this afternoon Lord I pray please have mercy on my soul.  You know my heart, You know me.  Lord, I pray humbly asking that You will show me Your glory.  I love and adore You, and worship You with all of my heart.  You are my El Shaddai – Almighty God.  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.  Amen

Lessons Learned

This evening I tried my hand at a Live video over Facebook, what an experience, first the lighting was terrible.  The sound was almost non-existent and the image was so blurred.

We also are experienced some really bad weather and I wonder if this didn't have anything to do with the broadcasting.

So, we changed the lighting and didn't think of the sound.

My next live video will be better, I just need to see why the video is so blurred.

Any advice?

Staying alive, the Bee Gee

Yvette, This is the song that best describes your photos. You have a powerful and enigmatic personality. You are tender, kind and compassionate and at the same time a total bad-ass to those who mess with you. You have a heart of gold that is precious and rare.
You move ahead in life with the faith you have in God. You are confident, bold and courageous and slay all problems that come before you with these qualities of yours. You are truly invincible!. This song describes the personality you are and what you believe in life. Make sure you have this song on your playlist now to remind you of who you are.

God is on my side, He wants me to receive the prize! I won't give up!

Hebrews 10: 35 – 36 (HCSB)
So don’t throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.  For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you may receive what was promised.”

What an awesome word this is “don’t throw away your confidence,” sometimes we lose ourselves in a moment of despair and we think “what is the use.”  I want to encourage you today, “don’t throw away your confidence.”  We are so blessed to have the privilege of reading the Bible, we can learn from it.  Taking each word into our hearts and minds.

God is awesome in creating a wonder and desire in our hearts for know more of God.  I believe without a doubt that the Lord God is on my side, He wants me to receive my prize.  I am working so hard and looking around knowing that God is on my side, who can stand against me?  No, I am not giving up, yes I am moving forward because “greater is He that is in me, than he who is in the world.”

I want to encourage you today, don’t forget God is on your side, He wants you to receive your prize!  Do not give up!

What is keeping you from your highest potential?

Psalm 42: 2 – 4 NIV “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while men say to me all day long, “Where is your God?  These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go under the protection of the Mighty One to the house of God with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.

We need to never go it alone because we need each other.

Life has it’s up’s and down’s and sometimes we feel frustrated and worried that we cannot make it, but God is there with you right now.   As I focus my attention of the thirsting in my own life for God, the living God.  I come to realize that we need to stay focused, we need each other to help us move forward.  Staying connected is what makes our lives better.  You say “Where is your God?”

I say, Lord God here I am it seems that I cannot hear You today, I need You.  I know God is with me and that He watches over me.  I will shout for joy and I will praise the Lord my God among the festive throng.  Because I realize and know that I can come into His presence, He called my by my name, I belong to Him.

Be encouraged today and realize that God loved you so much that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for your life.  Praise God for His faithfulness and His grace and mercy is new every day.  Amen

God is going to crown my year!

Amen, I believe that the Lord God is going to crown my year.  Yes, it has been difficult and times have been tough but I believe that times are shifting and change has come.  I believe God's hand is resting on my life.  I feel positive and sure that now it the time for me.

2 Sam 7: 18-22 "Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?  And yet this was a small thing in Your sight.  O Lord God and You have also spoken of Your servant's house for a great while to come.  Is this the manner of man, O Lord God?  You, Lord God, know Your servant.  For Your word's sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them.  Therefore You are great, O Lord God, for there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You."
