Salt and Light

Matthew 5:13 (RSV)

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men.

When preparing Macaroni and Cheese I always allow the water to boil with salt and oil.  Once the water starts boiling I add my Macaroni and then I let it boil for approximately 20 minutes.  For me the main seasoning in my Macaroni is the salt.

Now believe me when there is too much salt in the macaroni, the macaroni loses its appeal and I just cannot stomach it.  When the salt and oil is correctly applied the macaroni comes to live and I can create a wonderful Macaroni and Cheese dish.

As Christian we are needed to season many conversation, we are expected to act appropriately and we are also expected to be a disinfectant.  Life is difficult enough and people can say and do things which can be construed as being rude and out of sync.

So when you need to get rid of some antioxidants bring in some salt, this is a good way to exfoliate.

Prayer
O Lord God please help me not to lose my saltiness and let me shine my light so that we ever is lost will find You.  Lord as I am being used as seasoning in this life, help me remember that I am nothing without You, in Jesus Name, Amen

Buy into your dream

Genesis 37:8 (RSV)

His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to have dominion over us?” So they hated him yet more for his dreams and for his words.

I imagine Joseph being a really attractive ~ intelligent young man and he obviously enjoyed the favor of his father which made his brothers hate and despise him even more.  Joseph must have been really upbeat and bubbly and when everybody was seated at the dinner table he will tell his dad and brothers of his dreams.

Jealousy must have made his brothers really bitter and they just could not buy into Josephs dreams.

God had a plan to prosper Joseph and his family even though they could not see it at the time.  The good part is that Joseph never lost sight of his dreams and he clung to the Lord regardless of all the upheaval he experience.

Sometimes we need people to buy into our dreams, not everybody is going to cheer you on and there will be times when it seems like people are plundering your dreams.  You should hold onto them with both your hands.

Prayer
O Lord please place people on our way that will buy into our dreams, give us the heart and strength to hold onto our dreams.  Lord show us the way forward and never let us go, so that we are able to reach our God given dreams in Jesus Name.  Amen

‘… Nothing shall hurt you.’

Luke 10: 19 (RSV)

19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.

Every day we are faced with new experiences and challenges but, are we aware of the opportunities that present themselves to us?  I don’t think we even notice some of the opportunities that come our way.

As a Christian I don’t think that I have ever stepped onto a serpent or scorpion in the physical world but I do believe in the spiritual world I may have slain a couple of serpents and scorpions.  Scripture gives me hope in that God has given me the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and the best part for me is all power over the enemy so that nothing shall hurt me.

The fact that ‘nothing shall hurt me’ sits in the back of my mind, gives me the courage to face today, take on new projects.  The Lord is awesome and I can only give Him all the glory and honor because I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Prayer
Abba Father as I mediate and focus on Your word for today I want to say thank You that ‘nothing shall hurt me.’  Lord thank You that You have Your hand stretched out over my life and that You will reveal and open the right doors of opportunity for me and my future.  In the Holy Name of Jesus, Amen

The LORD never ceases

Lamentations 3:21-22Revised Standard Version (RSV)
21 But this I call to mind,
    and therefore I have hope:
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
    his mercies never come to an end;

As we meditate and focus on today word isn’t it fantastic to know and realize that we find our hope in the LORD.  We need to remind ourselves that we can draw hope from the Lord's love and remember that the LORD never ceases (will never cut you off).  Remind yourself that HIS mercies never come to an end.

We all face difficulties and because of these difficult times we need to stay focused on the scriptures; it’s in soaking up the Word of God that we renew our minds.  It’s becoming sponge like and once we are squeezed and pushed and prodded we expel a beautiful aroma.  Something that is refreshing because we have becomes full of the Lord's word.

As I watch and listen to people I sometimes become worried at our no care attitude towards each other.  We don’t have the necessary mercy or respect for each other.  Be encouraged and work on your attitude, let the LORD give you hope today.

Prayer

Please Lord help us not to lose hope and help us Lord to keep our trust in You and YOUR scriptures.  Teach us to deal with every situation life throws at us.  Lord we love and worship You in Jesus Name, Amen

A time to live and a time to die

Luke 16:31 New Life Version (NLV)

31 Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and to the early preachers, they will not listen even if someone is raised from the dead.’”

Straight Street is one of the most effluent and prestige’s streets in town, the very rich and famous live on this street.  In front of one of the richest men in town lay a really raggedy vagabond, dogs hanging around him, liking the sore on his face and hands.  A real eyes sore for the neighborhood but in actual fact there isn’t much that can be done as the old vagabond has been doing this for as long as we can remember.

Perched on the balcony the children watch how the dogs lick the sickly old man.  Their Father appears on the balcony and looks down at the vagabond lying on the street.  Laughing and eating some apples the children tease the vagabond.  Lazarus the old vagabond looks up to all the people standing on the balcony calling out ‘Please sir, may I have some bread and a little water?’  The rich man dressed in the finest of purple linen and sash looks down smiling and turns his head towards the children.  “Come now, let us go inside and have something to eat.”  The rich man ushers the children back into the eating hall.

Lazarus has just passed away; the angles are standing next to him.  As Lazarus’ spirit leaves his body he stands looking at his limp body.  He sighs a breath of relieve and looks at the angels standing next to him.  They leave and reach paradise; waiting to welcome Lazarus is Abraham.  A feast is being prepared to celebrate Lazarus arrival in Paradise.

The rich man also takes ill and he is facing his final moments, screaming and shouting ‘no, please leave me alone!  I don’t want to go with you!’  His breaths his last breathe.  The family was in shock as he died a really agonizing death.  The rich man put a good fight but failed, standing next to him were demons ready to take him into Hades.  As he reached his destiny he was in agony and in pain as the flames liked his face, his arms and his entire body.  The heat of the fire was excruciating, being tormented all the time, he just could not get away from all the agony.  Looking up; the rich man saw a familiar face, Lazarus the old vagabond talking to Father Abraham.

“Please Father Abraham, send Lazarus to me with a drop of water, the fire is excruciating and the heat is unbearable.  In my life I have never endured such pain.”  Father Abraham looked down from paradise with Lazarus next to him answering the rich man “Son do you remember the lavish life you lead, and Lazarus had to live the hard life.  Besides there is a great chasm between you and us so that those who wanted to come over to our side would not be able.  Not allowing anybody to cross over from either side.”

The rich man said “Then Father Abraham, please will you send Lazarus to my father’s house to warn my five brothers about this place.  I wouldn’t want them to end up with me here.”
Father Abraham answered the rich man “They have the scriptures of Moses and of the Prophets, let them listen to them.”

The rich man cried out “No!  Please Father Abraham; if Lazarus came from the dead and told them to repent they will listen.”

Father Abraham answered “If they don’t listen to the scriptures of Moses and the Prophets, why will they take note of someone rising from the dead.”
