How to win a personal battle?

by Yvette van Niekerk

Ephesians 4: 23 - 25 TLB

"Now, your attitudes and thoughts must all be constantly changing for the better. Yes, you must be a new and different person, holy and good. Clothe yourself with this new nature. Stop lying to each other; tell the truth, for we are parts of each other, and when we lie to each other, we are hurting ourselves."

I believe personal battles are connected to past hurts and thing or attitudes we want to change within ourselves. My husband said something interesting to me. He believes we all carry a little black box in the back of mind, heart or soul. It's locked away so no one, not even you can see it.

How to win a personal battle? It's going to be a very tough battle. I believe if it is hidden away, we don't actually want to expose it. The best way to deal with such a situation or circumstance is to call on the Holy Spirit. It's like poverty, and it smells musty - acidic, it burns your eyes when you smell it. People living in these circumstances stomachs growl with hunger.

The same for a Christian who has served God for a very long time; their religious thoughts keep them from growing into their new identity. It's much easier to teach a new Christian about mercy and grace than the person on the road for years. To change this person is going to be a brutal task. Only the Holy Spirit can set them free and deliver them from any strongholds or battles they are facing.

Paul writes us should drop these evil ways. Throw off your evil nature, the old you that was a partner in your evil ways, rotten through and through, full of lust and sham.

To win our battles, we need to be constantly changing our attitudes and thoughts renewing it for the better becoming different person, holy and good. Telling the truth and breaking the old nature and habits.

Being a person that doesn't pretend to be good, pretend to be nice but genuinely is good and genuinely nice. Personal battles are tough, and we can't change them on our own, we need the Holy Spirit to help us with the battles we face.

Prayer
Father God, please save us from all error, ignorance, pride and prejudices. Please direct, sanctify and govern us in our work, through the mighty power of the Holy Spirit, so the Gospel may be preached. Christ is truly spoken of and received, and we truly follow You in every place. We are fighting our battles with sin, Satan and death. Calling on You Holy Spirit to renew our hearts and mind. In Jesus Name, Amen

How does prayer change your life?

by Yvette van Niekerk

I believe when we pray that we are in communication with the Lord Jesus. We want to build our relationship with Him, and we need to speak to Him. Even when we don't know what we want to say we still just come into His presence and be still.

There are so many formulas and so many prayer guidelines available to us, which can help us, but from my point of view, just being honest, and speaking to God from my heart. I believe God hears these prayers.

We need to praise the Lord when we come into His presence. Giving Him praise, saying thank You, and blessing the Lord is good for our soul and helps us go into right standing with God. Then because we are fallible and have sins present in our hearts and lives, I believe we should be confessing our transgressions. Then we need to repent of our sins.  Reading the Word, we know that in Isaiah 59 verses two says "Your iniquities have separated you from your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He will not hear." It's no use trying to hide your sins, or the things you know aren't acceptable to God. He knows you and can see what you have done. Hebrews 4, verses 13 says "There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." So true confession is admitting to all your evil deeds and asking God to forgive you with a repented heart.

This type of prayer is good for our soul; we feel relieved and can breathe after this. Lifting heaviness from our shoulders and creating a renewing; in our hearts and mind because God knows the secrets of our heart. Prayer changes my perspective of life, and God is waiting for me to speak to Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, humbly I come before You, asking You Lord God, please forgive me. Create in me a clean heart and forgive me every fault. Please renew a right spirit within me. O LORD, You are gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness. Please forgive me for taking advantage of your graciousness and mercy. Please Lord, have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquities and cleanse me from my sins. I want to receive Your forgiveness of sins and ask for refreshing in my life. Amen

10 Scriptures to Calm your stress and Anxiety.

by Yvette van Niekerk

My husband said that the Coronavirus and social distancing is the leading cause of peoples suffering from depression and is stressed out, and very anxious. Scripture is the best way to renew our minds and change our mind-set. Helping us focus and meditate on the Lord.

Deuteronomy 31: 6 "I am strong, courageous, and firm; I fear not and am not in terror, for it is the Lord my God Who goes with me; He will not fail me or forsake me."

Psalm 86: 7 "In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me."

Psalm 139: 23 - 24 "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Proverbs 15: 15 "All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings], but I have a glad heart and a continual feast [regardless of circumstances]."

Matthew 6: 27 "My worrying and being anxious will not add one unit of measure (cubit) to my stature or the span of my life."

Matthew 6: 31, 33 "I will not worry and be anxious, saying, What am I going to eat? Or what am I going to drink? or What am I going to wear? ... But I will seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given me besides."

Matthew 6: 34 "I will not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its trouble."

Mark 4: 19 "I will not let the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful."

Philippians 4: 6 - 7 "I am not anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petitions, with thanksgiving, I present my requests to God, which transcends all understanding, guards my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus."

1 Peter 5: 7 "I cast the whole of my care [all my anxieties, all my worries, all my concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for me affectionately and cares about me watchfully."

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Lord, please help us face today, using Your Word to renew our minds and helping us draw near to You. Forgive us our sins, in Jesus Name. Amen

"Two ways to live your life."

by Yvette van Niekerk

Deuteronomy 6: 5 MSG
“Love GOD, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got!”

Albert Einstein said, 'There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.'

Matthew 7: 13 - 14 MSG
Being and Doing
"Don't look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practised in your spare time. Don't fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to Life - to God! - is vigorous and requires total attention."

I have reached a place in my life that I want to be in the right place at the right time; I want to manoeuvre through all the difficulties with success. I have decided to place myself under the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ, and I am learning what He wants me to do right now. I am asking that the Holy Spirit will carry me forwards. My greatest fear in life is that I would disappoint the Lord Jesus. I know I could be the same as every other woman. Worry about fashion, worry about my clothes, go partying and dancing. So I need to choose Life or death. Which do you prefer? But that's not important to me presently, and I'm not interested in that sort of thing. I am grateful the Lord has accepted me as His child. It's about am I serving God, or am I living a godless life.

The way God wants me to live is by reading His Word.  And here is my problem, I know what I'm supposed to be doing, but I often have a hard time doing it. I have slipped with discipline in my own life, and I am struggling to get this back on track.

Prayer
Father, blessed is those who hear the word of God and keep it. Lord he who keeps Your commandments abide in You, and He in him. And by this, we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. In Jesus Name, Amen

The Cherubim protected the Tree of Life.

by Yvette van Niekerk

Genesis 3: 23 - 24 AMP "therefore the Lord God sent Adam away from the Garden of Eden, to till and cultivate the ground from which he was taken. So God drove the man out; and at the east of the Garden of Eden He [permanently] stationed the cherubim and the sword with the flashing blade which turned around and around [in every direction] to protect and guard the way (entrance, access) to the tree of life."

The Cherubim are referenced several times in my Nave's Topical Bible. Are they the same as the seraphim? No, Ezekiel had a vision, and this is what we read he saw. Ezekiel 10 verse 21 AMP "Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings, and beneath their wings was the form of human hands." These angels had four faces and four wings, and the seraphim six wings, and both creatures have hands.

According to Ezekiel, there was a stormy wind from the north, with a great cloud with fire flashing continually from it. A very bright light all around it and within it to the core, something like glowing metal amid the fire. Inside of this cloud, there were four living beings. They looked like humans, and each one of them had four faces and four wings. Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like a calf's hoof, and they sparkled and gleamed like shiny bronze. Under their wings on their four sides, they had hands like humans. Their wings touched one another, their faces did not turn when they moved, and each went straight forward. This was what their faces looked like: each one had the face of a man facing to the front, and each had the face of a lion on the right side, and the face of an ox on the left side and all four also had the face of an eagle at the back of their heads. Their wings were stretched out upward; two of each one was touching another, the wings of the beings on either side of it, or the remaining two wings of each being were covering their bodies. They each went straight forward; wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go without turning as they. Among the living beings, there was something that looked like burning coals of fire, like torches moving back and forth among the living beings. The fire was bright, and lightning was flashing from the fire. And the living creatures rushed back and forth like the flash of lightning.

He was looking at the angel's faces. We can also see something of the Lord Jesus. The face of a man speaks of His humanity; the face of the lion speaks of His authority and the face of the ox speaks of His sacrifice on the cross and the face of the eagle speaks of His deity. Now I believe that these angels were on a mission, where the Holy Spirit leads they went.

Another feature of these angels was they were as fast as lightning. We read from verse 13 and 14, among these living beings, there was something that looked like burning coals of fire, like torches moving back and forth among the living beings. The fire was bright, and lightning was flashing from the fire. And the living creatures rushed back and forth like flashes of lightning. We see they were attached one to the other and still moved very fast, and they look like they are red-hot burning fire.

Then we see in verse 15 and 16, and the four creatures have a wheel on the ground beside each one of them. The wheels were identical, sparkling like a diamond in the sun. Wheels within wheels, like a gyroscope.

We see the wheels as describe from verse 17 to 21, "They went in any one of the four directions they faced, but straight, not veering off. The rims were immense, circled with eyes. When the living creatures went, the wheels went; when the living creatures lifted off, the wheels lifted off. Wherever the spirit went, they went, the wheels sticking right with them, for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. When the creatures went, the wheels went; the creatures stopped, the wheels stopped; when the creatures lifted off, the wheels lifted off, because the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels." Again we cannot imagine what God has created, it sound so awesome. It far beyond what I could even comprehend my imagination is lacking when it comes to even imagining God's remarkable creatures.

In the following verses, 22 – 24, we read "over the heads of the living creatures was something like a dome, shimmering like a sky full of cut glass, vaulted over their heads. Under the dome one set of wings was extended towards the other, with another set of wings covering their bodies. When they moved I heard their wings – it was like the roar of a great waterfall, like the voice of The Strong God, like the noise of a battlefield. When they stopped, they folded their wings." As I focus and meditate on this scripture its clear, I cannot imagine God's angels looking like something filled with eyes and wheels.

Then Ezekiel describes the noise that these angels made, I think there must have been a multitude to create the noise. He said that it sounded like rushing water of Victoria falls perhaps. I believe Ezekiel experience an incredible vision, seeing all these angels carrying the glory of the Almighty forward as they moved. God is above them – bring glory and praises to the Lord God Almighty. Reading from verses 25 – 28 "And then, as they stood with folded wings, there was a voice from above the dome over their heads. Above the dome, there was something that looked like a throne, sky-blue like a sapphire, with a humanlike figure towering above the throne. From what I could see, from the waist up he looked like burnished bronze and from the waist down like a blazing fire. Brightness everywhere! The way a rainbow springs out of the sky on a rainy day – that's what it was. It turned out to be the Glory of GOD! When I saw all this, I fell to my knees, my face to the ground. Then I heard a voice."

Glory to God Almighty, this is so awesome, God we love you!

Who are the seraphim?

by Yvette van Niekerk

Isaiah 6: 1 - 2 AMP
Isaiah's Vision
6 "In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw [in a vision] the Lord sitting on a throne, high and exalted, with the train of His royal robe filling the [most holy part of the] temple. Above Him seraphim (heavenly beings) stood; each one had six wings: with two wings, he covered his face, with two wings he covers his feet, and with two wings he flew."

These celestial beings are mentioned only in Isaiah according to my Nave's Topical Bible. Seraphim are writing in the plural, so that means more than one. We don't know how many there are. Let's see what is said in the scripture above: Two wings hiding its face, so as not to look onto the God of heaven. Two wings are covering its feet, recognizing subservience of the Almighty. Then another two wings for flying, it must be to do God's business. The seraphim keep on praising God, by saying "And one called out to another, saying, "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is filled with His glory."  (V. 3)

The seraphim are confirming and affirming God's holiness and His great acts. Then God's presence is released according to (V. 4) ", and the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, and the temple was filling with smoke." the doors started to vibrate. Isaiah was struck with fear and awe and said; "Woe is me! For I am ruined because I am a man of [ceremonially] unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." (V. 5)

In the next verse 6 we see that the seraphim have hands, see what it says in verses 6 to 7, "Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs. He touched my mouth with it and said, "Listen carefully, this has touched your lips; your wickedness [your sin, your injustice, your wrongdoing] is taken away, and your sin atoned for and forgiven."

I have realized that only God can forgive sins, but the seraphim touched Isaiah's lips, and his wickedness was removed, meaning they acted on God's instruction.

Consider Covid-19 as a time of regeneration.

by Yvette van Niekerk

It is so easy to fall into self-pity mode, and once you are there, it is going to take a miracle to get you out. We need to start taking affirmative action in our lives; spiritually, we can draw near to the Lord. The whole world in turmoil, feeling desperate and isolated. Come, let us take up the Armor of God be strong in the Lord and his mighty power. We were reading from Ephesian 6, verse 10 to 20.

We know that the battle we are fighting is against the evil of this world. We also know we need to stand firm on God's Word. I strap on the belt of truth around my waist, and I ask the Lord to help me keep on speaking the truth and placing the breastplate of righteousness over my chest. Lord, I am the righteousness of God in Christ, no weapons formed against me shall prosper. My feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Help me to carry this Word out to a broken world. As I pick up my shield of faith today, extinguishing all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Standing firm on God's promises, no weapon or illness can come against me. I place the helmet of salvation on my head. I have a sound mind God's Spirit is with me. My sword is the Word of God, and I can use it in any situation. I am asking the Lord to help me pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

Psalm 91: 4 - 5 "God will cover me with his wings; I will be safe in his care; his faithfulness will protect and defend me. I need not fear any dangers at night or sudden attacks during the day."

Prayer Father God, I fear not, there is nothing to fear, for God is with me. I do not look around in terror and be dismayed, for He is my God. He will strengthen and harden me to difficulties, yes, God will help me; yes, He will hold me up and retain me with His victorious right hand of rightness and justice. (Isaiah 41: 10) In Jesus Name, Amen

Gethsemane (Crushed Olives).

By Yvette van Niekerk – from Daily Devotional Ebenezer

June 18

Matthew 26: 36 (AMP)

36 "Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, Sit down here while I go over yonder and pray."

The word "Gethsemane" means crushed olives. What is the result of crushed olives? It forms oil that heals and nourishes and can illuminate. There were really trying times in my life as a young woman and the tears would spill over my face constantly. I would be crying for help and praying for an answer which seemed to never come. I found that the people in my own life couldn't comprehend or understand the pain I was facing, and they could only look at me without any help.

I found that in my most crushing time I could only wait on the Lord God, no one could help me. I felt the full weight of God's will in my life. When you are in your Gethsemane, don't give up, keep on praying and wait on the Lord God. It isn't possible for others to help you; only God can.

Prayer

Lord, as our daddies and fathers on earth normally face difficult circumstances, let them embrace You so that the "oil" they produce will be a blessing in our lives. Amen
