Finding My Place in God’s Design – Reflections from 1 Corinthians 12

A personal devotional by Yvette
This morning during my quiet time, I read 1 Corinthians 12, and one verse touched me so deeply that I had to stop, breathe, and read it again: “But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be.” — 1 Corinthians 12:18 For years I’ve struggled with comparing myself to others. I try to be as beautiful, as thin, as well-put-together as the women I see around me. The perfect long hair, the flawless makeup, the slim figure. And when I don’t match that picture, I feel discouraged, disappointed, and sometimes even ashamed of how I look. But this verse reminded me of something powerful: God arranged me too. Exactly as He wanted me to be. Part of His body. Part of His plan. Chosen. Designed. Loved. How 1 Corinthians 12 Helps Me Live Closer to God The message Paul writes is not about outward appearance it's about identity, purpose, and belonging. Here’s what God showed me today: 1. God never asked me to be someone else. He arranged every part of His body on purpose. That means I am not an accident, and neither is my shape, my face, my personality, or my journey. Trying to copy others only exhausts me and keeps me from walking in the beauty God already placed inside me. 2. When I rest in who God made me, I stay connected to Him. Trying to impress people is draining. Trying to please God is freeing. When I stop striving to be a copy, I can finally hear His voice, feel His peace, and walk in His joy. 3. Every part of the body is needed including me. Sometimes I feel like the “weak” or “less beautiful” part, but God says the opposite. Each part has value, purpose, and honour even the parts the world overlooks. How Can I Become More Like Jesus? Not by copying people… Not by chasing beauty standards… Not even by trying harder… But by doing what Jesus did: 1. Accepting the Father’s love completely. Jesus never compared Himself. He lived from the Father’s approval, not for it. I can become more like Jesus when I believe: “My Father delights in me as I am.” 2. Serving with the gifts God gave me Jesus walked confidently in His God-given identity. I can follow Him by discovering and using my gifts even if they are small, quiet, or simple. 3. Loving others without comparing. Jesus didn’t look around and wish He were someone else. He simply loved, served, forgave, and listened. I want to walk that way too. Promises Hidden in 1 Corinthians 12 (That I Almost Missed) Reading again, I found promises tucked inside the chapter that speak directly to my heart: 1. I belong fully. “You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” (v.27) I am not outside looking in. I am part of His body. 2. God Himself placed me where I am. “God arranged the members… just as He wanted.” (v.18) I don’t need to fight for identity it is given. 3. The parts that seem weak are actually indispensable. (v.22) God treasures what the world calls “less”. 4. God gives honour to the parts that feel lacking. (v.24) He lifts me up where I feel insecure. 5. I am created for unity, not comparison. (v.25) Comparison breaks, but unity heals. How I Can Apply This in My Daily Life Today, I am choosing to: • Stop comparing myself to others • Thank God for the way He made me • Walk in the gifts He gave me • Celebrate the uniqueness He placed in other people • Honour the part of the body I am • Trust that He arranged everything in my life with purpose Instead of asking, “Why am I not like her?” I want to learn to say, “Lord, thank You for who You created me to be.” I may not have long flowing hair or a skinny body… but I am His creation, His daughter, His beloved, designed with intention and placed with purpose. And that truth sets me free.

Wisdom in Trusting God

Proverbs 3: 5-6 NIV “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” My journey has been really interesting and there are days when I find it really difficult to trust in God.  On those days I go and make all kinds of plans and I think and worry about the matter at hand and at the end of that day I am tired, frustrated and I feel sick to my stomach.  Are you able to relate?   It sounds so easy when you read these words “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”  Many times I take my problems to the LORD and I leave them with the LORD and after some serious thinking and worrying I go back to the LORD and take the problems back. This has been something I did for a number of years and lately, I have realized it has to change, I have to trust in the LORD.  After all, God is the creator and knows the plans for...
