You know that verse we often hear? Matthew 6:33: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
It can sometimes feel like a big, lofty command. But what if it’s actually a kind and practical promise? The "things" Jesus is talking about, our daily needs like provision, relationships, and health; have a way of falling into their proper place when we get the main thing right. And that main thing is seeking His kingdom.
So, what is His kingdom? For me, it’s about consciously living under the gentle, wise rule of Christ each day. It’s about submitting my plans, my worries, and my hopes to His will.
And that word "seek"? It’s an active, loving call. It asks for:
• Intentionality: Think about when you’ve lost something truly precious. You put other things on hold. You look until you find it. That’s the kind of focused pursuit Jesus is describing.
• Importance: Things like success, status, and possessions aren't bad in themselves, but without Christ at the centre, they can leave us feeling vulnerable and empty. Putting His rule first gives everything else its proper value and protection.
• Persistence: No matter how busy life gets, or what we have to rearrange, we are invited to restore our quiet time with God to its rightful place. It’s a pursuit worth every effort.
This call to "seek" echoes the beautiful prayer of the Psalmist: ‘When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.”’ (Psalm 27:8).
Whether you call it your "quiet time," "morning watch," or simply your "daily appointment with God," the label isn't what matters. What matters is the regular, daily fellowship. It’s a time you deliberately set aside to be with Him in His Word and in prayer. The goal isn't to check a religious box; it's to grow in a real relationship to know Him more, love Him more deeply, and become more like Him.
And here is the most wonderful, heart-changing truth of all: God wants this time with you.
Revelation 4:11 tells us, “For your pleasure they were created.” Did you ever stop to think that God created you for relationship? He made you to enjoy your company. Your entire perspective on a quiet time can be transformed when you realise it’s not an obligation, but an invitation. He is waiting for you and welcomes you into His presence.
The cross is what made this incredible access possible. Remember, in the Old Testament, a thick veil in the temple separated a holy God from the people. Only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies, and only once a year. But when Jesus cried out “It is finished!” on the cross, that veil was torn in two from top to bottom (Mark 15:38). God Himself tore the separation away.
Now, because of what Jesus did, we can all come to God as priests (Revelation 1:6). We can walk into His presence anytime. What a breathtaking privilege! Grace has flung the door open, and our gratitude should be the magnet that draws us through it each day.
Now, I'll be really honest with you. I make time to sit in God’s presence each morning, but I haven't heard an audible voice in a very long time. Yet, I must tell you this; His Word, the Bible, often pierces my heart. I’ll be reading a scripture, and suddenly, I’m just overwhelmed. I'm crying my eyes out, like someone has gently uncovered the deepest part of me.
I believe that’s God. That’s Him speaking directly to my spirit through His living Word. And on those days, I have the most amazing, anchored sense of peace. He is truly so wonderful and good, and I love Him deeply.
How about you? Do you also find moments to just be in His presence each day?
Hey, hey it is my 2 nd anniversary! This has been an interesting time in my life and I must be honest I am starting to see the changes in my own life. Firstly remember I am a city girl with this bad ass attitude, my way or the highway. Ah, now let me tell you that doesn’t work like this. My husband has a firm hand over me and keeps me in toe. I am still my own person and have many new interests. How was my day today? Well the normal, got out of bed at 04h30 and then left the house by 06h00 arriving at work at 07h00. Then to top it off in an early morning meeting at 07h30 to 08h30, then back in the office. I worked on three projects; getting information from people isn’t that easy. I firstly completed my own scope of work, followed up with the suppliers and then going back to the next person. As I work according to my time keeping schedule I then finally got to lunch time. I...
