A Yearning for Spiritual Growth and Divine Connection
Luke 12: 32 It is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. John 16: 24 Until now you have aksed nothin in My Name. Ask, and you will receive, tht your joy may be full.
In anticipation of the year ahead, I find myself seeking the Lord's guidance for a profound spiritual journey. My heartfelt desire is to encounter the Holy Spirit, igniting a transformative change within me, dispelling negativity from my heart, and breathing life into seemingly impossible situations.
My aspirations extend beyond personal growth; I earnestly pray for blessings upon my family, friends, and professional endeavors. May the Lord's favor encompass my husband, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, mother, stepfather, sister, brother, and dear friends. Additionally, I hope to be an invaluable asset to my employer, contributing to the company's success while expanding my knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.
Despite the excitement, a tinge of fear accompanies these hopes. I acknowledge my longing for a profound, life-changing walk in faith with God. My desire is not for calamity, divorce, or death, but for a Holy Spirit-inspired awakening, renewing my vision, dreams, and ultimately, my destiny.
With unwavering faith, I declare God as my healer, redeemer, deliverer, strength, and shelter. As I approach the evening, I surrender my fatigue, stress, and burdens to the Lord, seeking renewed strength and release from life's pressures.
In this moment, I affirm my proximity to the Lord, drawing close as promised in James 4:8. My soul yearns for a deeper, more intimate relationship with God, seeking to know Him in every conceivable way. I reject the notion of being "always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth" (2 Timothy 3:7).
Lord, reveal the truth about who You are, for I know You are near to those who call upon You in truth (Psalm 145:18). I open myself to Your work within me, desiring to eliminate anything that hinders my time in Your presence. Let my prayers align with Your will and deepen my understanding of You.
In the dryness of my spiritual thirst, I heed Your invitation, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink" (John 7:37). I come to You, longing for a deeper manifestation of Your presence, yearning to dwell in Your sacred space like never before.

How the Unconditional Love of GOD Shapes My Life
By Yvette van Niekerk
The imagery of someone peering down from a cliff, beholding the ocean's depths, evokes a profound analogy for the human journey. Picture yourself as that individual, standing on the precipice, gazing at the ocean's expanse below. From this vantage point, you notice the stark contrast between the shallow and deep areas of the sea floor. It's akin to the varied phases of our lives—moments of tranquility and security contrasted with unexpected plunges into the unknown depths.
In our life's narrative, we often navigate through what seems to be serene, safe waters. It feels comfortable, familiar, and we traverse through existence with confidence. Yet, abruptly and without warning, we find ourselves treading on unseen, treacherous terrain, akin to inadvertently walking over a hidden underwater cliff.
Consider this scenario through the lens of GOD's omniscient perspective. His vantage point transcends our limited view, encompassing all facets of our existence. GOD, in His infinite wisdom, comprehends our whereabouts in life and our daily pursuits. He stands above, watching, waiting to guide and protect.
Imagine a scenario where we maintain a continuous connection with GOD, seeking His guidance through prayer: "LORD, lead me away from potential harm." In these moments, His divine intervention can divert us from perilous paths. However, when we neglect this connection, when our prayers grow scarce, we find ourselves perilously close to the edge, vulnerable and exposed.
Today, I urge you to rekindle that connection with GOD. Reach out to Him, seeking His counsel and wisdom to navigate the intricacies of each passing day. Know that His love transcends boundaries and conditions—it's steadfast and unwavering.
Let's reflect on the cautionary tale of Lot, Abraham's nephew, as a poignant illustration. Lot's decision to reside among a community of malevolent individuals led to his capture, illustrating the consequences of choosing personal desires over GOD's intended path. How often do we, too, stray from the shelter of GOD's protection, swayed by what seems favorable in the moment, devoid of seeking His divine counsel?
Therefore, I implore the Lord for illumination and understanding in our individual journeys. I surrender everything into His capable hands, entrusting His guidance. Thank You, Lord, for being attentive to my prayers. Guide me on the path towards Your Kingdom, for I earnestly need Your presence, Jesus Christ, in my life. Amen.

Exploring the Impact of Unconditional Love in Our Lives
By Yvette van Niekerk
Contemplating the essence of unconditional love, I ponder its manifestation through personal perception. To me, it embodies acceptance despite my flaws and errors. I believe God extends Agape love, an unconditional affection towards all of us.
The influence of unconditional love shapes my daily existence. Unexpected gifts, received without merit, serve as poignant reminders of this love. For instance, someone might offer me a cherished chocolate—a gesture I didn't earn but graciously received. This simple act reflects the concept beautifully.
Recognizing that God perpetually seeks ways to demonstrate unconditional love is crucial. Amidst recent challenging circumstances, I've been blessed with unexpected blessings. These gifts brought solace, illuminating the truth that life isn't an incessant struggle.
It's paramount for me to embrace the idea that I can encounter God's supernatural blessings in my life. I yearn to feel His enduring love. Isaiah 48 verses 6-7 resonate with me: "God reveals new things, hidden and unknown, created now through prophetic words."
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge Your faithful commitment to fulfill Your promises. Thank You for the living and powerful Word that transcends, actively operating and energizing beyond comprehension. Its precision is sharper than any blade, dissecting the deepest essence of our being—our thoughts, intentions, and innermost desires (Hebrews 4:12).
As I engage in my daily tasks, I humbly seek Your divine guidance and protection, asking for the presence of Your angels to assist me through this day. I find contentment in knowing that You provide for all my needs from the abundance of Your glory through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
I surrender every aspect of my life—work, relationships, family, home, and moments of solitude—to Your care. I firmly trust that You accompany me, straightening my path as I navigate through life's journey. I bring my work before You, asking for Your divine intervention and assistance in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Different Types of Fasting and Their Impact on Spiritual Growth
By Yvette van Niekerk
1. Intermittent fasting: This is a dietary approach that alternates periods of eating with periods of fasting. While it's primarily associated with physical health benefits, some people incorporate intermittent fasting into their spiritual practices. It may help improve discipline, self-control, and mindfulness, which can contribute to spiritual growth.
2. Water fasting: This involves abstaining from all food and consuming only water for a specific period. Water fasting is practiced in some spiritual traditions as a means to cleanse the body and mind, enhancing spiritual awareness and promoting a sense of clarity.
3. Partial fasting: In this type of fasting, individuals restrict certain foods or meals but do not entirely abstain from eating. For example, some might fast by avoiding specific foods like meat or certain types of food during specific times, such as Lent in Christianity or Ramadan in Islam. Partial fasting can cultivate discipline and empathy, deepening one's spiritual connection through sacrifice and reflection.
4. Juice fasting: This involves consuming only fruit or vegetable juices and abstaining from solid foods. Some people view juice fasting as a way to detoxify the body and mind, which can potentially lead to heightened spiritual experiences through increased energy and focus.
5. Religious fasting: Different religions have their own fasting traditions, each with its specific rules and significance. For instance, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset during Ramadan, Christians may fast during Lent, and Jews observe fasting on Yom Kippur. These religious fasts often have deep spiritual meanings, emphasizing self-discipline, empathy, reflection, and connection with the divine.
The impact of fasting on spiritual growth can vary for individuals. Some believe fasting helps in purifying the body and mind, fostering self-discipline, empathy for others, and developing a deeper connection with one's spirituality or religious beliefs. It can also encourage mindfulness, self-awareness, and gratitude, creating a conducive environment for spiritual reflection and growth.
However, it's important to approach fasting with moderation and mindfulness, considering individual health conditions and seeking guidance if necessary. Fasting should ideally be accompanied by a sincere intention for spiritual growth rather than merely as a ritual or obligation.

The Spiritual Essence of Fasting: Unveiling Its Purpose
by Yvette van Niekerk
I've noticed that fasting can be an arduous journey for me. It seems that people, in general, become irritable in my presence. They tend to act spitefully and do things that provoke me. However, I understand that they may not even realize their behavior, especially when I'm observing a fast. It's as though trouble seems to find me effortlessly during these times.
But let's not dwell on these personal experiences. Let's delve into the true essence of fasting. In my opinion, the primary purpose of fasting is to draw closer to the divine, to the LORD God. It's crucial to comprehend why one embarks on a fast, keeping in mind the desired outcomes.
I begin by compiling a list of reasons for fasting, jotting down habits or aspects I wish to change. It's undeniably challenging, particularly for someone who cherishes food. Typically, I seek out relevant scriptures and daily devotional plans tailored for a 21-day fast.
Here are the motives behind my fasting:
Seeking strength to confront challenging circumstances.
Constantly concerned about my own repentance, seeking forgiveness from GOD for numerous issues.
A deep longing to hear GOD’s voice and receive fresh guidance.
Requesting GOD’s supernatural favor in various aspects of life.
A desire to enhance sensitivity, spiritual perception, and understanding of divine matters, a facet lacking in my life.
Aspiring to nurture the anointing within me.
Seeking guidance for the upcoming year, entrusting GOD's providence.
Urgently needing to break free from the bonds of wickedness that seem to persist within me.
Understanding the purpose of fasting is crucial, aligning it with the teachings of God's scripture. I seek daily scriptures to keep my mind centered on the LORD, aiding meditation on His word for guidance.
I've come across teachings that emphasize how the LORD Jesus intends to radiate through our lives; He desires us to break free from limitations. The Christ within us holds the solutions that those around us yearn for. Have you ever considered embarking on a 21-day fast? Remember, it's a discreet time; we refrain from boasting about our fast, and in doing so, we may reap the divine rewards that GOD intends for us.
Gracious Heavenly Father,
We recognize and exalt Your sacred name. Our heartfelt plea is for Your kingdom to manifest on earth as it does in heaven, and for Your divine will to prevail. We ask for your pardon for our transgressions, just as we endeavor to forgive those who have trespassed against us. As I embark on this fast, I humbly request Your fortitude, discernment, and insight to steadfastly follow Your teachings. May the Holy Spirit graciously lead me and provide guidance throughout this time. I also implore Your extraordinary favor, both in Your presence, Lord, and among others. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

I am the righteousness of God in Christ
Romans 5: 1 (TLB)
So now, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith in his promises, we can have real peace with him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Consider the profound concept: "we are the righteousness of God in Christ." This notion prompts a reflection on what it truly means to stand in right relationship with God. While the prospect sounds appealing, one might wonder if there are actions one can take to merit such righteousness. The reality is that righteousness cannot be earned; rather, it is bestowed through unwavering faith in God.
Speaking personally, I adhere to rules, seeking clarity on expectations and my role in various contexts. A structured and systematic life brings me a sense of acceptance, and I strive to be in harmony with both God and people, yearning to earn their love and approval. In my pursuit, there is a desire to achieve personal worthiness, a wish to independently earn my righteousness.
Yet, delving into Romans 4:1-3, we find a profound lesson from the life of Abraham, our forefather. If justification before God were based on works, Abraham might boast, but scripture reveals that Abraham's righteousness was not earned through deeds; instead, it was accounted to him because of his belief in God. This narrative challenges the idea that adherence to rules and commands alone can make one righteous before a holy God. “What then shall we say was gained by Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.’” Romans 4:1-3
Despite my earnest efforts to diligently follow divine commands, I grapple with my imperfections daily. The truth is, none of us can attain righteousness before a holy God through our actions alone—Abraham, a patriarch, exemplifies this reality. Paul's teachings emphasize that Abraham's righteousness resulted from faith, a gift from God. This gift, freely given to Abraham, is also extended to each of us.
Like Abraham, striving for perfect obedience is futile; our human limitations make it impossible to earn righteousness independently. However, the liberating truth is that, through faith, we can receive the gift of righteousness from Jesus. Our journey toward righteousness involves turning to the Lord and putting our faith in Jesus Christ, acknowledging that it is through Him that we find true and lasting righteousness.
Heavenly Father, Almighty God,
I come before You with a heart full of belief in Jesus Christ, Your only begotten Son. I have welcomed Him into my life, acknowledging His grace and salvation. Today, I invite the Holy Spirit to dwell within me, granting me the necessary wisdom, insight, and understanding to navigate the challenges of this day.
Lord, I recognize my utter dependence on You. There are moments when life feels devoid of meaning, and each day seems like an uphill struggle. As the years pass, I find myself increasingly concerned about the state of my relationship with You. I sense a void, a deficiency that prevents me from being the person You intend me to be.
In humility, I lay my concerns before You, Lord. If there are sins within me that need confessing, I ask that You, in Your mercy, reveal them to me. Grant me the strength and courage to confess, that I may enter into a righteous relationship with You. I acknowledge my faith in You, understanding that with You, nothing is impossible.
Lord, I surrender my fears, shortcomings, and uncertainties to You. May Your grace fill the gaps in my life, and may Your love guide me in becoming the person You designed me to be. In the powerful name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

Embracing the Divine Empowerment
by Yvette van Niekerk
Psalm 46:1 (NKJV): "God, the Sanctuary for His Devotees and Victor over Nations. To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song for Alamoth. God is our sanctuary and vigour, an ever-present aid in adversity."
I perpetually draw my strength from the Almighty, finding confidence and courage in Him to confront any challenge. Currently, I grapple with turbulent emotions and struggle to contain my anger towards others. I earnestly strive to temper my words, yet often find myself unintentionally expressing thoughts that would have been better left unsaid.
Navigating relationships proves to be a complex endeavour. When genuine anger surges within me, it often leads to outbursts. I beseech the Lord to place a guard over my tongue, yet I persist in my efforts.
I persevere in refining my disposition, steadfastly holding onto the Lord, for I believe that without Him, reaching my destination is insurmountable. I perceive myself on a tumultuous journey, endeavouring to maintain my composure while beseeching God to fortify me in the face of trials.
I recognize the need for distance from certain individuals, though achieving this seems improbable. The animosity they harbour and their subtle attempts to undermine me are a formidable challenge.
I earnestly pray that the Lord refrains from granting me excessive strength, for I may become an unwarranted adversary. Thus, I embarked on my spiritual voyage, relying on the Lord to fortify me and guide my path. I am engaged in an ongoing struggle with this individual, sincerely praying that they discover their own footing, that the Lord grants them their heart's desires, and that their lives flourish with prosperity and blessings.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I beseech You to shower my family with the rain we so desperately require. I am grateful and rejoice in You, my Lord God, for You have bestowed upon us the former rain in moderation, and I trust that You will send forth both the former and the latter rains in abundance. (Joel 2:23) I implore You, Lord, to let Your spiritual deluge descend, as You have promised. I cry out to the Holy Spirit, asking for the greatest harvest of souls. Lord, I confess that I cannot traverse this life without Your fortitude; I am utterly dependent on You. I uplift my family and friends to You, beseeching You, Lord, to hear my prayer. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

Embracing the Journey: Navigating the Golden Years with Grace.
By Yvette van Niekerk
In Psalm 91:16 (NKJV), it is written, "With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation." Ageing is an inevitable part of life; each passing year is a testament to this universal truth. This month marks my 60th year, a milestone that prompts reflection and gratitude.
As I step into this new season of life, I recognize that I am entering my Golden years. It is my heartfelt aspiration to become a beacon of wisdom and a guiding presence in the lives of those around me. I aspire not to become a person steeped in bitterness, perpetually discontented with the world. Instead, I yearn to immerse myself in the embrace of the Divine, to delve deeper into understanding the heavenly ways of God.
I aim to be a shining light for those who feel adrift, to extend a helping hand that guides them closer to God's grace. The thought of walking steadfastly and suddenly finding myself in the presence of the Lord is a notion that captivates me. Enoch, who lived to be 365 years old and walked hand in hand with God into heaven, stands as a remarkable example of this divine transition, evading the trials of earthly departure.
Romans 4:17 encourages us to "call those things which be not as though they were." I strive to emulate the teachings of the Lord Jesus, allowing His Word to shape my thoughts, and actions, and renew my spirit. I aspire to be a vessel of goodness, a source of pride for the Lord.
In times of adversity, I reach out for unmerited gifts and the supernatural favour of God. I firmly believe that His Word is alive and powerful, and that my needs will be met by my Heavenly Father, who knows them intimately.
With conviction, I declare today that I am blessed and prosperous. God is the faithful provider of all my necessities, aligning His provision with my spoken words. In 2 Corinthians 4:13 (Amplified Bible), the Apostle Paul reminds us, "We too believe, and therefore we speak." Like him, I affirm my faith through my words.
Through Him, I find strength, and through His Word, I find renewal. Because He lives, I can boldly call on Him, knowing that my prayers are heard and answered. I extend my deepest gratitude to the Lord for His boundless grace and provision.
In prayer, I lift my gratitude to the Lord, for on Thursday, I sought a gift from Him. Today, I rejoice, for not only did He grant my request, but He bestowed upon me sevenfold blessings. This reaffirms the truth of His Word. I hold fast to the belief that He is orchestrating divine shifts in my life, as well as in the lives of my husband and children.
Thank you, Lord, for your abundant blessings. Amen.

Perched atop my virtual soapbox.
by Yvette van Niekerk
Reflecting upon Nehemiah 8:4a (NKJV) – "So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose."
Ezra, the priest and scribe, responded to the people's request to read the Word of God aloud. Upon hearing it, some were moved to tears, yet they found solace in singing praises to the Almighty.
Today, I ask: Are you standing on your soapbox? Where do you deliver your spontaneous speech? Is it in the vast expanse of the Internet – perhaps in your blog posts, Facebook updates, or even on Instagram? The power to disseminate the Word of God to multitudes lies within our grasp online. Let us seize this opportunity. Through this medium, we can educate, counsel, and uplift. Personally, I believe that through my humble blog, I touch the lives of many. My daily devotions are written with the hope of rewriting them, speaking from the depths of my heart. I yearn for God to inspire my words, infusing them with the essence of the Holy Spirit. When people read the scriptures I share, I pray that God touches their souls, igniting a desire to delve deeper into the mysteries of our Living God. May they draw nearer to Him and earnestly seek His divine kingdom.
Although I cannot foresee my life two decades hence – in fact, I doubt I'll still be breathing then – I am determined that, while I am alive, the Word of God remains vibrant in my existence and in my community. I stand tall on my virtual soapbox, hoping that my words of encouragement resonate with others. My aspiration is to alter perspectives and inspire seekers to earnestly pursue God.
In prayer, I offer all glory and honour to You, my Lord and Savior. Today, I beseech You for those who take the time to engage with and read my blog. My fervent prayer is that You draw them closer to You, guiding them through the words we share. Holy Spirit, I implore Your assistance for each one of us today. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

Choosing Grace Over Retaliation
by Yvette van Niekerk
1 Thessalonians 5: 15 (NLT) “See that no one pays back evil for
evil, but always try to do good to each other and all people.”
It's easy to scoff at this verse, especially when we've been wronged. The temptation to retaliate, to escalate the conflict, can be overpowering. How dare they treat me this way? It's maddening, especially when they justify their actions.
As a Christian, I find myself at a crossroads. I must resist the urge to repay evil with evil. Instead, I'm called to be gracious and forgiving. Yet, at this moment, I'm struggling. It's tempting to think that 2000 years ago, the Apostle Paul couldn't fathom our modern complexities. But human nature remains constant. The challenge lies in shifting my perspective to see others through God's eyes. I've heard that I have the power to change my behaviour, but goodness, it's a formidable task. The person is a constant presence, a daily wellspring of frustration.
So, where do I begin this journey of renewing my mind? Proverbs 4: 7-9 provides a beacon: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.”
I'll admit, I'm not the wisest person on this earth. That's why I need to immerse myself in God's Word. It's not a casual endeavour; it demands my full attention. I must study day and night until something shifts within me. I must become unreasonably committed to God's Word. It's a discipline I'm struggling to instil, but it's the key to renewing my mind.
How do I stay committed? How do I become unreasonably committed to God and His Word?
Prayer:
Father God, I long to saturate myself with Your Word. I confess my weakness, my lack of insight and wisdom. Please, when my old self surfaces, yearning for retribution, grant me the strength to choose grace. Grant me wisdom for each new day. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
