Book Review: A Match of Wits
Author: Jen Turano Personal Quality Rating: 4 Pages: 348 Publishing house: Bethany House ISBN 978-0-7642-1127-0 Reviewer: Yvette van Niekerk Summary: A Match of Wits is such a beautifully written Romance set in the 1880’s. The main characters in this novella are Miss Agatha Watson, Zane Beckett, Drusilla, and Mr. Blackheart. The story takes you to Colorado Springs which is an up and coming Mining Community. Zane Beckett left New York to peruse the love of his life Helena but we find him drunk and hanging out with a couple of unsavory ladies. He is so drunk that he needed to be carried up to his quarters. Agatha didn’t expect to find Zane in Colorado Springs and especially in such a state. Zane has no idea that Agatha is hiding out in Colorado Springs because someone is trying to assassinate her. Mr. Blackheart is her bodyguard and Drusilla is a paid companion. The characters in the story are all known to us as they are seen in the previous books such as “A Talent for Trouble” and “A Most Peculiar Circumstance.” There is a lot of bantering, the story and the plays of words are absolutely great. The suspense in unraveling the mysterious killer takes you to the end of the story and it was a most unlikely suspect from my point of view. The ending very good and you will feel absolutely happy with the results. Social / Historical Context: This book was written both evocations as well as commonplace. The narrative is based on four main characters and a cute little pig. From the outset, Agatha and Zane are constantly misunderstanding each other. Mr. Blackheart and Drusilla are the people who come to the aid of both Agatha and Zane. I believe the social setting and historical context is well thought out. This story is a continuance of the previous stories and the characters all come into play near the end. Writing Style: I believe the author enjoyed writing this story; she was drawing her inspiration from her previous books and bringing all the characters to life. In doing this the story flows and we already know the previous characters and know the background. It’s almost like a true life story based on a certain family and the adventures the children enjoy. The author narrates her special kind of humor which is fresh and catching. I found that Agatha was steadfast concerning her faith and belief in God where Zane was a little upset and angry with God. If you have read the previous books I am sure you will enjoy this page turner. My Thoughts: I enjoyed the read and would recommend it for light reading. I love the characters and Agatha and her little pig Matilda had me in stitches. Charlotte's invention was something to experience, I felt sorry for Zane but he actually got the hold of the contraction. Yes, I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to you! Loved the story. |

Amethyst
When a fearsome pirate captain hires on a

Hoping to escape a violent past among the fae people, Amethyst set sail on a ship that will bow to no one. Cadell is a captain who must reign in vampire instincts while still squelching anyone who would oppose him. When the two join forces, they must fight back against an enemy who would kill them both. With each turn, Amethyst battles for control and at last, this fae captain must make a decision that could set her free, or cost her everything.

Are you still glad in the LORD?
1
Chronicles 16: 10 “Let the hearts of those who keep on seeking the Lord rejoice
(be glad).”
I seek the Lord and when I wake up the first thoughts that come to my mind is “good morning LORD.” I am not quite sure what the day holds for me but please keep Your hand of protection over each one of us today.
I don’t believe my life is perfect in fact I go through difficult times and I feel so lonely and then I turn my attention back to God. I am so grateful for all His doing in my life. I cannot see my life without Him.
Do
you want to rejoice with me today? Are you feeling lonely and without a
purpose? I want to encourage you by telling You God is looking out for people
who are looking for Him. Seeking God with all their hearts and minds, you know
that feeling. Looking and searching for God until you have the right answers.
God
is good, all the time.
Prayer
Lord
you know the agnostic and the person who is so skeptic about Your existence. I
want to encourage these people and tell them YOU LORD are real. I have
experienced You on more than one occasion. I want to ask them to start by speaking
to You, Holy Spirit speak into their hearts and help them move forward. In the
name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
“Act on what you hear!”
James 1: 22 “Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear!”
What drives you? Where is your passion? What are you passionate about? These questions have been plaguing me for some time. I feel driven by doing the best I can every day. I feel passionate about the Lord and His word. I feel that I need to write my short devotionals and let people see what is happening in my own life. I want to be instrumental in spreading God’s Word across the World. I feel passionate about people. My passion is to help elderly people, I think of my mom and her plight.
I wonder if you are scared to ask God “What do You want me to do for YOU?” Thinking about it most people try not to ask this question in case there is an answer and they need to really do something they don’t want to. We are misled, God’s will is good and acceptable and perfect check out Romans 12:2.
Don’t just listen to the Word but act on it. Do something about it.
Prayer
Lord thank You for the passion You placed in my heart for my mom and people that suffer. Please Lord touch the lives of the people reading my blog today bless them and keep watch over them in Jesus Christ name. Amen
