Mary laughed and started to sing: ‘ My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit
rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his
servant. From now on all generations
will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is
his name. His mercy extends to those who
fear him. He has performed mighty deeds
with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost
thoughts. He has brought down rulers
from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but
has sent the rich away empty. He has
helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his
descendants forever, even as he said to our fathers.’
Mary stayed with Elizabeth for four months, during this time
Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist.
Elizabeth gave birth to her little boy John and all her
neighbours and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and
they shared her joy.
Little baby John was circumcised on the eight day and they
were going to name him Zechariah but Elizabeth spoke up and said ‘No! He is to
be called John.’
Her friends and relatives said but there is no one in your
family called Johan.
Zechariah’s mouth opened and he said “praise God” their
friends were amazed and filled with awe.
Thank you Lord
